OOOOOlympics

While I wirte this, the cities are doing their final presentation in Copenhagen...Rio and Chicago are the strongest bidders...Lula and Pele x Obama and Oprah...
This result will carry lots of meanings...

Chicago is more prepared...already has lots of venues and a more decent public transport than Rio...
If Rio wins it, the IOC will show its hope in Rio's development...'cos, seriously, they'll have to build a new city from scratch...

It could also be possible that if Chicago wins there'll be a new motivation in US and even the financial markets can react positively...why not...the US, as the main economy in the world, is in need of some good news in order to see its economy reacting towars the light at the end of the tunnel...

Many things worries me about Rio...we can not deny that is the most beautiful city from all the bidders (Rio, Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo)...
Brazil, after the crisis, is emerging as a robust economy and we can expect and enormous growth in the following years...meaning that by 2016 it will clearly be a much better supported and independent economy...

In 2014 we'll host the world cup and, despite being a totally different sport event from the olympics, it will demand lots of public and private investments...this could be a solid ground for the olympic games...and also a nice excuse...
On the other hand, knowing Brazil, its politics and the 'brazilian way', we can already expect corruption and money flowing to the wrong people...the organizations behind the world cup and the olympics in Brazil, CBF and COB, are runned by two 'dictators' of the sport in Brazil...many obscure things are known about those two excentric guys: Mr Teixeira and Mr Nuzman...both already declared that will leave their positions after 2014 (Teixeira) and, probably, 2016 (Nuzman)...their future is more than secured after hosting the two main sporting events at home.

One things that I think favors Rio is the possibility of having the first olympic games in south america...

Terrorist threats in Chicago? yes...likely...why not...but world situation might change in 7 years...many things could happen in the meantime...

at the end it's a very tough call...book makers are showing that chicago is more likely to win...but...who knows...we still have 7 hours until the final decision...can you imagine if madrid or tokyo wins?? :)

adios, arigato!

let's get started
